Image Compressor
Re-encode an image at unchanged dimensions as JPEG or WebP and use quality to trade file size against visual fidelity.
How to use
- Choose an image, select JPEG or WebP and a quality value, Apply, then inspect the output size change versus the original.
Capabilities and scope
The dedicated workbench defaults JPEG input to JPEG and other supported input to WebP; quality 10–100 is passed to canvas.toBlob.
How it works
The bitmap is drawn at the same width and height and encoded with the chosen MIME and quality/100.
Example
Processing a 3 MB PNG as WebP quality 82 keeps its dimensions and may reduce size; the measured percentage change is shown.
Useful for
- Reduce image transfer size while controlling visible quality
Before you use it
- Output is not guaranteed to be smaller; JPEG cannot preserve alpha, and canvas re-encoding can remove metadata and animation.
Frequently asked questions
Does lower quality always make the file smaller?
Often, but not guaranteed relative to the original format/content; check the measured output size and change.
