File Checksum
Create a re-check checksum by applying a selected SHA algorithm to the entire file.
How to use
- Choose the file and match the checksum algorithm used by the other system before generating the value.
Capabilities and scope
The current checksum runner is not CRC; it computes a cryptographic SHA-1/256/384/512 digest over the same file bytes.
How it works
The file ArrayBuffer is digested with the selected Web Crypto algorithm and emitted as hexadecimal.
Example
You can hash a backup before and after copying with SHA-512 and compare the two values.
Useful for
- Detect byte changes across a copy, backup, or transfer
Before you use it
- CRC32 and MD5 are not offered, and checksum equality does not authenticate intent or replace signature verification.
Frequently asked questions
Does it calculate CRC checksums?
No. The current choices are SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512.
