Microphone Tester
Display live input level and peak from a selected microphone using Web Audio.
How to use
- Choose an input device, start measuring, allow permission, then speak or make sound and watch level and peak change.
Capabilities and scope
The release runner requests audio input with getUserMedia, disables echo cancellation/noise suppression/auto gain, and connects the stream to an AudioContext Analyser.
How it works
Time-domain samples at fftSize 2048 are normalized around 128 to derive an RMS-like level while a decaying observed peak is retained.
Example
Speaking raises the LEVEL meter and a louder moment remains visible in PEAK.
Useful for
- Check whether the browser is receiving a particular microphone input
Before you use it
- The displayed dB is not calibrated sound-pressure dB and varies with device gain, browser, and OS processing; it is not a sound-level meter.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to grant microphone permission separately first?
No. Starting the measurement uses getUserMedia, which prompts for browser permission when required.
