Maximum Heart Rate
Show an age-predicted maximum heart-rate reference using about 220−age plus general intensity bands.
How to use
- Enter age from 18 to 100.
- Calculate estimated maximum and the 50–70% and 70–85% bands.
Capabilities and scope
Despite an older catalog expression, the actual runner uses the AHA general 220−age guide.
How it works
max≈220−age; target bands multiply that estimate by 0.5–0.7 and 0.7–0.85.
Example
At age 50 the estimated maximum is 170 bpm.
Interpretation
Ages below 18 or above 100 are rejected.
Useful for
- Get a rough age-based maximum-heart-rate starting point
- Check the maximum used for general target-zone references
Before you use it
- Actual measured maximum can differ, and medication or health conditions can alter heart-rate response.
Edge cases
- 220−age is not a direct physiological measurement.

Frequently asked questions
Is this my exact maximum heart rate?
No. It is an average age-only estimate.
