Heart Rate Zone Calculator
Calculate age-predicted maximum heart rate and general moderate/vigorous target zones for adults.
How to use
- Enter an integer age from 18 through 100.
- Calculate maximum heart rate and the two target ranges.
Capabilities and scope
The current runner follows the AHA general guide: maximum about 220−age, moderate 50–70%, vigorous 70–85%.
How it works
max=220−age; moderate=50–70%×max; vigorous=70–85%×max, rounded to bpm.
Example
At age 40, estimated max is 180 bpm and moderate range about 90–126 bpm.
Interpretation
This implementation is not the heart-rate-reserve/Karvonen method.
Useful for
- See a general starting range for exercise heart rate
- Compare age-based target zones
Before you use it
- These are averages; medication, heart disease, and individual maximum heart rate can change an appropriate range.
Edge cases
- Only integer ages 18–100 are accepted.
