Alcohol Unit Calculator
Calculate UK alcohol units, pure-alcohol millilitres, and approximate grams from drink volume and ABV.
How to use
- Enter drink volume in millilitres.
- Enter ABV from 0 to 100% and calculate UK units plus pure alcohol.
Capabilities and scope
The current runner follows the NHS unit definition ABV(%)×ml÷1000 and also uses an approximate ethanol density of 0.789 g/ml.
How it works
pureMl=volume×ABV/100; units=pureMl/10; grams≈pureMl×0.789.
Example
500 ml at 5% ABV gives 2.5 UK units and 25 ml pure alcohol.
Interpretation
ABV is limited to 0–100% and volume must be non-negative.
Useful for
- Compare UK units across drinks
- Convert ABV and volume to pure-alcohol amount
Before you use it
- It does not estimate BAC, impairment, elimination time, or fitness to drive and should not be used as a drinking-safety decision tool.
Edge cases
- The grams figure uses the 0.789 g/ml density approximation.
