Markdown to Plain Text
Strip common Markdown image, link, list, and emphasis markers with a set of simple regular expressions.
How to use
- Enter Markdown text and run the plain-text simplification.
Capabilities and scope
Images are removed, links keep their label text, leading #>*+- markers are stripped, and `_*~ characters are deleted.
How it works
Image, link, and line-prefix patterns are replaced in sequence, then common inline formatting characters are removed.
Example
[Open](https://example.com) and **bold** simplify to Open and bold.
Useful for
- Remove lightweight formatting marks from a Markdown draft
Before you use it
- This is not a complete Markdown parser, so nested constructs, code blocks, tables, and escapes may not be preserved correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Is code-block content preserved exactly?
No. Backticks and other formatting characters can be removed because the tool is regex-based.
