Metronome

Play a browser metronome from 30-240 BPM with an accent on the first beat of a repeating four-beat cycle.

How to use

  1. Set BPM between 30 and 240.
  2. Press Start to play clicks.
  3. Change BPM or pause when needed.

Capabilities and scope

Adjust BPM by slider or number field and watch the current beat count while Web Audio produces the clicks.

How it works

A Web Audio oscillator emits an approximately 55 ms click at 880 Hz on the first beat and 660 Hz on the others. Clicks are scheduled with a JavaScript interval of `60,000/BPM` milliseconds, and the counter repeats every four beats.

Example

At 120 BPM the target interval is about 500 ms, with a higher click on beat 1 and lower clicks on beats 2-4.

Useful for

  • Set a basic practice tempo
  • Practice against a steady four-beat pulse
  • Compare how different BPM values feel

Before you use it

  • Because it uses browser `setInterval` scheduling, it does not guarantee DAW/sample-accurate timing.
  • Time signature and accent pattern are fixed to a four-beat cycle.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the time signature to 3/4?

No. The current accent cycle is fixed at four beats.

What BPM range is available?

The current controls support 30 through 240 BPM.
