Device Orientation Viewer
Display DeviceOrientationEvent alpha, beta, and gamma angles live and request sensor access where the platform requires it.
How to use
- On iPhone/iPad, use the permission button when shown; otherwise move the device and watch α, β, and γ update.
Capabilities and scope
Environments exposing requestPermission start in a needs-permission state; other supported environments attach the listener directly. Pause/resume and value reset are available.
How it works
While listening, alpha/beta/gamma from deviceorientation events are shown to one decimal; null or non-finite values appear as —.
Example
Tilting the device can change β/γ while rotation can update α depending on the sensor/browser.
Useful for
- Check whether a mobile browser exposes orientation sensors and observe their changing values
Before you use it
- Sensor coordinates, calibration, and accuracy vary by device/browser and do not guarantee compass heading or survey-grade orientation.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no permission button on some devices?
The runner uses an explicit button only when DeviceOrientationEvent.requestPermission exists; other supported environments begin listening directly.
