Word Counter
Count words together with character, line, sentence, and paragraph statistics.
How to use
- Enter text and run the tool to inspect the word count and supporting statistics table.
Capabilities and scope
Words are matched as runs of letters, numbers, underscores, apostrophes, or hyphens, while character counts use Unicode code points.
How it works
A Unicode-aware token regex counts words; line breaks, sentence-ending punctuation plus whitespace, and blank-line paragraph breaks drive the other counters.
Example
Entering Hello world returns two words together with its character and line counts.
Useful for
- Check the overall size and structure of a draft
Before you use it
- This is not a linguistic tokenizer, so languages without strong whitespace word boundaries may not match morphological word counts.
Frequently asked questions
Are spaces included in the character count?
Yes. Characters includes spaces and a separate Characters (no spaces) row is also shown.
