Sentence Counter
Estimate sentence count from sentence-ending punctuation followed by whitespace.
How to use
- Enter prose and run to view the estimated sentence count.
Capabilities and scope
Periods, exclamation marks, question marks, and Japanese equivalents are recognized as split points when whitespace follows.
How it works
The runner splits with (?<=[.!?。!?])\s+ and counts non-empty pieces.
Example
One. Two! Three? is counted as three sentences.
Useful for
- Get a quick sentence estimate for whitespace-delimited prose
Before you use it
- Abbreviations, punctuation without following whitespace, and punctuation-free prose can cause boundaries to differ from natural-language sentences.
Frequently asked questions
What if there is no space after punctuation?
Adjacent sentences may not split because the implemented boundary requires whitespace after the punctuation.
