Gzip Size Estimator
Compress the input text with the browser CompressionStream gzip implementation and report the resulting byte size.
How to use
- Enter the text whose compressed size you want to inspect and run.
Capabilities and scope
The tool creates a real gzip stream and measures the output Blob rather than applying a fixed compression ratio estimate.
How it works
A Blob stream containing the UTF-8 text is piped through CompressionStream('gzip'), then the output Blob size is read.
Example
Highly repetitive text can produce a gzip byte count much smaller than the original text size.
Useful for
- Compare approximate gzip transfer sizes of API responses or documents locally
Before you use it
- Server gzip settings, headers, Brotli, compression levels, and implementation differences are not modeled; CompressionStream support is required.
Frequently asked questions
Will this exactly match my server's gzip size?
Not necessarily. A server can use different compression implementations or settings.
