Extract Numbers
Extract integer or decimal-looking substrings with optional plus or minus signs, one per line.
How to use
- Enter mixed text and run the number extraction.
Capabilities and scope
The regex recognizes an optional sign and decimal point but does not parse exponent notation or thousands separators as one number.
How it works
All matches of /[-+]?\d*\.?\d+/g are joined with newlines.
Example
x=-12.5, y=+3 extracts -12.5 and +3.
Useful for
- Pull simple numeric tokens from logs or prose
Before you use it
- 1e6 can split into 1 and 6, and 1,000 can split into 1 and 000; this is not a numeric parser.
Frequently asked questions
Is scientific notation extracted as one value?
No. The current pattern does not cover exponent notation as a whole.
