Download Time Calculator
Estimate theoretical download time from file size and transfer speed.
How to use
- Enter file size and choose its unit.
- Enter a positive transfer speed and choose the speed unit.
Capabilities and scope
Decimal KB/MB/GB/TB are converted to bytes, while bit/s and byte/s speed units are handled separately.
How it works
seconds = sizeBytes×8 / speedBitsPerSecond, with decimal 1 MB=10⁶ bytes.
Example
1000 MB at 100 Mbps takes a theoretical 80 seconds.
Useful for
- Estimate a lower-bound download duration
- Check the difference between bit/s and byte/s rates
Before you use it
- Protocol overhead, server throttling, wireless quality, and rate variation are excluded.
Frequently asked questions
Are MBps and Mbps the same?
No. MBps is megabytes/s; for the same numeric value it represents eight times as many bits per second.
