Fiscal Year Calculator

Assign a date to a fiscal-year ending-year label using a selectable fiscal start month.

How to use

  1. Choose a date.
  2. Select the fiscal-year starting month.
  3. Calculate and read the FY year.

Capabilities and scope

For fiscal years that do not start in January, this tool maps a date to an FY label. Its convention labels the fiscal year by the calendar year in which it ends.

How it works

If the selected month is on or after the chosen fiscal start month, one is added to the calendar year for the FY label; earlier months keep the calendar year.

Example

With an April start, an April 2026 date is FY 2027, while a March 2026 date is FY 2026.

Useful for

  • Classify data for a non-calendar fiscal year
  • Convert a date to an ending-year FY label
  • Check dates around a fiscal boundary

Before you use it

  • Organizations differ on whether an FY is named for its starting or ending year. This tool specifically uses the ending-year convention.
  • Week-based calendars such as 4-4-5 are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Why is April 2026 shown as FY 2027 with an April start?

Because the period beginning in April 2026 ends in calendar year 2027 and is labeled by that ending year.

Can I change the starting month?

Yes. Any month from January through December can be selected.
