XML Formatter
Validate XML with the browser XML parser and insert line breaks between adjacent tags.
How to use
- Enter XML and run to validate and view the line-broken output.
Capabilities and scope
This is a lightweight formatter: it serializes the parsed document and adds newlines at tag boundaries rather than calculating full indentation.
How it works
DOMParser with application/xml must produce no parsererror; XMLSerializer output then receives newlines between >< boundaries.
Example
<root><a>1</a><b>2</b></root> is split across tag lines.
Useful for
- Quickly inspect basic XML syntax and tag structure
Before you use it
- Hierarchy indentation is not calculated and declaration or namespace serialization can differ from the original text.
Frequently asked questions
Does it indent nested levels?
No. The current implementation mainly adds line breaks between tags.
