Text Hash Generator
Hash the UTF-8 bytes of input text with Web Crypto and return a lowercase hexadecimal digest.
How to use
- Enter text, choose the hash algorithm, and run.
Capabilities and scope
The UI offers SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512, with SHA-256 as the default.
How it works
TextEncoder creates UTF-8 bytes, crypto.subtle.digest computes the hash, and output bytes are joined as two-digit hex.
Example
SHA-256 of hello produces a 64-hex-digit digest.
Useful for
- Compare text integrity or inspect test vectors
Before you use it
- Hashing is not encryption, SHA-1 is unsuitable for collision-resistant security uses, and password storage requires a dedicated password KDF.

Will the same text always have the same hash?
Yes, when the UTF-8 bytes and algorithm are identical.
