Degrees to Slope
Convert an angle in degrees to slope percent.
How to use
- Enter the slope angle in degrees.
- Calculate tan(angle)×100.
Capabilities and scope
Slope percent is rise/run ×100, obtained from the tangent of the angle from horizontal.
How it works
grade% = tan(angle×π/180)×100.
Example
45° gives 100% because tan45°=1.
Useful for
- Compare roof, road, or ramp angles with percent grade
- Convert angular slope to rise/run percentage
Before you use it
- Near 90° tangent diverges, producing extremely large values with little practical grade meaning.
Frequently asked questions
