Weighted Average Calculator
Calculate a weighted mean from multiple value-and-weight pairs.
How to use
- Enter a value and a non-negative weight in each row, adding rows as needed.
- Calculate to see Σ(value×weight), total weight, and the weighted average.
Capabilities and scope
You can add or remove rows, and weights do not have to add up to 100.
How it works
It uses Σ(value×weight) / Σ(weight), with a total weight greater than zero.
Example
Values 80 and 90 with weights 30 and 70 produce a weighted average of 87.
Useful for
- Combine grades or scores with different credits
- Aggregate indicators with different importance
Before you use it
- Negative weights and a total weight of zero are rejected.
Frequently asked questions
Do the weights need to sum to 100?
No. Because the calculation divides by total weight, proportional weights such as 3 and 7 give the same average.
