Tile Calculator
Estimate whole tile count from a rectangular surface, tile size, and waste allowance.
How to use
- Enter surface length/width in m and tile length/width in cm.
- Choose a 0–100% waste allowance and calculate the minimum whole tiles.
Capabilities and scope
Surface dimensions are in metres and tile dimensions in centimetres; the runner normalizes area before rounding the purchase count up.
How it works
base=surfaceArea/tileArea, needed=base×(1+waste/100), purchase=ceil(needed).
Example
A 5m×4m area with 60cm tiles and 10% allowance gives about 61.11 theoretical tiles, rounded to 62.
Useful for
- Estimate floor or wall tile purchases
- Compare required counts for different tile sizes
Before you use it
- Pattern matching, diagonal layouts, and complex cuts can require more allowance.
Frequently asked questions
Why show a fractional tile value?
It exposes the area-based theoretical quantity, then separately rounds up to a whole-tile purchase minimum.
