Scientific Notation Calculator
Convert a finite number to coefficient × 10^exponent and E notation.
How to use
- Enter a finite numeric value.
- Calculate to inspect both scientific and E notation.
Capabilities and scope
The runner derives a decimal exponent from magnitude, normalizes the coefficient, and also shows JavaScript exponential notation.
How it works
For nonzero values exp=floor(log10(|value|)) and coefficient=value/10^exp; zero uses exponent 0.
Example
1234567 is displayed approximately as 1.234567 × 10^6 plus its E form.
Useful for
- Write very large or very small numbers compactly
- Convert numeric results to scientific or engineering documentation style
Before you use it
- The input must fit a finite JavaScript Number and displayed digits can be rounded.
Frequently asked questions
How is zero represented?
Zero is handled with coefficient 0 and exponent 0.
